How to Work From Home Effectively During COVID 19?

Right now there are a lot of changes happening in the work place in reaction to the Coronavirus (CoVid-19). Working from will be a new concept to a lot of people, but also for people who are used to it, you may struggle to be effective at home. For some, the work office is a good place to be because it give you a place to focus which is away from your home.

Before I proceed I want to ensure that you are following the latest guidelines from the government, keeping yourself and others healthy and safe!

I have had to work from home a few times and right now, I will be working from home. I am in a place now where I am even more effective at home than I am at work. It didn’t always used to be like this because I too had the struggle of adjusting. So to bring positivity to the situation, I thought I’d share five tips of How to work at home effectively during CoVid 19:

1. Maintain your routine ⏰

It’s very easy to fall into the habit of hitting snooze and waking up last minute because you don’t have to travel or get dressed. Don’t fall into this trap of waking up late and lounging around in pyjamas. You’ll find you have less energy and struggle to get in a flow. Stick to your morning routine, for example, wake up as usual, shower get and get dressed! Perhaps you use that extra time to read a book instead of scrolling on Insta!

2. Regular updates ✅

Don’t sit around waiting for your manager to call you at the end of the week chasing you to see if you have done what you have said you was going to do, or wait until Friday to tell them there’s A problem!

Providing regular feedback to your manager/ teams will help build trust and help you track progress. You can do this daily and weekly.

3. Look forward 👁 ➡️

Without the distraction of people you may find you have extra time. Don’t just waste that time watching tv. Take the initiative to look forward and see if you can bring targets forward because this will also build trust and improve your standing within the company.

4. Remain Social

Working from home alone or being in the same house all day with the same people can be frustrating and leave you feeling isolated from others. Avoid feeling isolated by keeping your social contact high. Have your meetings calls/ catch ups via video or on the phone rather than text or email.

5. Exercise 🏋🏽

Just because your at home it doesn’t mean you get to stop exercising. And if you currently don’t exercise, use this opportunity to start. Use that extra time you save not commuting to exercise. After you wake up, stretch/ do yoga for 10 minutes. After you complete your work task, do a 20 minute home workout or go for a brisk walk/ run. Also, don’t forget to take regular breaks. These two combined will help you maintain your flow and keep your focus high!

6. Don’t Panic

This is the most important part. During times like this we need to remember that we are all good people and need to behave as such. Panicking will only breed negative thoughts which will lead to motivation and happiness declines.

I hope this helps you during this tough period. Remember to keep safe and healthy and following the government advice. We’re all in this together!
