Effective Leadership Principles for the Younger Generation: Decision Making

Calling all aspiring leaders! This is a blog you’ll want to read!

In this series of posts I will be discussing effective leadership principles for the Younger Generation, principles I wish I had known about or learnt when I was starting out on my leadership journey. No matter your style, niche or scale, these principles will form the foundation of your leadership behaviours. In this series I will be covering the following principles explaining why it’s important, how you develop in this area and what you can do to start now: Communication, Authenticity, Influence, Decision Making and Behavioural Accountability.

The next principle I want to explore is Decision Making. Do you remember that time when you looked towards your manager to make a decision and they wouldn’t or couldn’t? Do you remember when you required direction in life and couldn’t make a decision yourself? Do you remember when you made a positive decision and it worked out, how you felt? Effective Decision Making is critical! (Check out my post on how to lead in times of crisis).

Success! You're on the list.

Why?

During my leadership journey, over a decade now, I have worked with good leaders and bad leaders. I found that leaders come in many shapes, sizes, ages and styles, but one thing that every great leader has in common is effective decision making.

Effective decision making leads to greater success, one vision working, greater motivation, more efficient working and the list goes on, but most importantly it increases your leadership currency balance of influence. Where would we be today if not for decisions made by some of today’s iconic leaders, such as Bill Gates, Elon Musk or Jeff Bozos?

The key message here is that effective decision making creates better leaders.

How?

Becoming an effective decision maker isn’t a magical skill, however it is one that you can learn, develop and practice.

The first secret to becoming an effective decision making is self-confidence. Belief in yourself and decisions demonstrates leadership presence, allows people to trust you more openly and your influence grows. However, there is a bullet-proof four step method to making great decisions every time.

What?

So what do you do to achieve this? The next secret to effective decision making is how you make decisions. When you have a solid method in your decision making thought process you will trust yourself which will give you the confidence to put yourself forward and become a great leader.

Now what is this thought process? Well, I won’t share that here. There is a bullet proof four-step method to making effective decision every time. I explore my four-step method in the video below, but go into greater detail in my book (click the image link below). Now the real question is, are you willing to learn more to become a better leader or not? Decisions…Decisions… (see what I did there…)
